Why We Built Kumar Academy
Growing up, we watched students around us get sent to the same group classes, math centers, and tutoring programs — the ones every Indian family knew about. And we watched most of them fail. Not because the students weren't smart. Because the system wasn't built for them.
Classes moved too slow for students who were ready to go further, and too fast when the material finally got hard. Teachers lectured at the front of the room while students in the back checked out. Nobody was adapting. Nobody was paying attention to whether the individual student was actually getting it. We saw it. We lived it.
Our founder graduated from Indiana University with degrees in Real Estate, Finance, and Entrepreneurship — and knew early on that he wanted to build something, not just work in something. When he looked at the tutoring industry, he saw the same problems we'd all seen growing up — and a clear gap. No one was building a structured, accountable system designed around the individual student. So we built one together.
Kumar Academy isn't built around any one tutor's personality or teaching style. It's built around a repeatable system — diagnostics before session one, a personalized lesson plan, the same tutor every week, and a written update to parents after every single class. The results speak for themselves.
We come from the same communities our families come from. We understand the expectations, the pressure, and what it actually takes to perform. That's not something you can find at Varsity Tutors or Wyzant. It's what makes Kumar Academy different.

Every Kumar Academy tutor comes from a top university program. But we don't select tutors based on grades alone. Being smart enough to know the material is the baseline. What we actually look for is whether they can teach it.
Academic credibility from top programs
Our tutors attend nationally ranked universities and programs. They recently took the same SAT, sat through the same Honors and AP courses, and know exactly where the material gets hard. That recent experience matters.
The ability to actually teach, not just know
Knowing the material and being able to explain it are two very different things. Our tutors can say it multiple ways until it clicks. They meet the student where they are, not where the textbook says they should be.
Patience and genuine investment in the student
A tutor who gets frustrated when a student doesn't understand immediately is the wrong tutor. We look for people who genuinely enjoy the process of helping someone get it. That patience shows up in results.
Positivity and a no-ceiling mindset
Our tutors genuinely believe every student can improve. That belief is contagious. When a tutor walks into a session convinced the student can do this, the student starts to believe it too. That changes everything about how they perform.

Not everyone makes it through our process
We turn away tutors who have strong academics but cannot connect with a student. A great GPA does not make a great tutor. We select for both, because your student deserves both. Every tutor goes through a vetting process before they are ever assigned to a family.
